Biography
Jan Till Schmieder received his Bachelor’s degree from the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. To gain more hands-on experience during his studies, he started working at the Fraunhofer IOF and contributed to the development of a thermographic 3D sensor to measure transparent objects. For his Bachelor’s thesis, he investigated the influence of thermal 3D measurements on the integrity of the sample. While he did enjoy his time in Jena he wanted to pursue something that was more to his liking. Therefore, Jan decided to enroll at RWTH Aachen University for his Master’s degree in physics, specializing in Quantum Technology. After attending a lecture given by Prof. Rami Barends his interest in superconducting quantum computing was awoken. Thus, he decided to join the Peter Grünberg Institute for Functional Quantum Systems (PGI-13) for his Master’s thesis under the supervision of Prof. Rami Barends.
Apart from work, Jan embraces the cold as he likes to play ice hockey and go snowboarding. Furthermore, he enjoys music and plays the electric bass.
